We’re feeling it here too Bryn, and even gut plants in the ground yesterday (under our makeshift cloche). The American Goldfinches drop on our feeder in a swarm and the Northern Flickers hammer away on metal chimney vents, calling out to potential mates. It’s a fun season, but I’d sure love to see a Cardinal! I remember them from my youth but they’re just not around here.
Kale, collard greens, spinach, parsley, beets, leeks ... there's something else, I can't remember. Sara is on a kick to get all her calcium needs met through diet, so she's super focused on high-calcium foods. Too bad we can't post pics in comments, as I just rearranged my office to add more art. For me, the requirements are natural light, big screen, art, comfortable chair ...
Happy 50th edition! It does feel like we're turning a corner weather wise and we've also now got a later sunset in our favor (early mornings are still too dark but that will change).
This post is sheer delight, Bryn - and wow, the pictures!
I spent some time in the garden this afternoon - my intention is to be clearing away the choking ivy, but I'm finding all sorts of goodies that are sending up shoots! Sadly a rain shower sent me scuttling back inside - it's now absolutely pouring out there....
Lilies of the valley, which are my favourite flower! In German, they're called 'Maiglöckchen', which means 'little May bells' - so cute! That part of the garden is soon-to-be bare soil - it's a complete revamp after some construction work around it. I've been pulling up so many crocosmia bulbs, and had thought the green shoots I found today were crocosmia - thankfully I noticed in time...
Hyacinth Bucket?! You can watch 'Keeping Up Appearances' over there?!
Funny to look at your pictures of spring as I lie on my couch, coming home from another snowy commute.
As you know, I don’t work from home, but someone who does told me they always put their shoes on before sitting down at their desk, and that helps with feeling like going to work, as full time home office person.
It feels like we’re worlds away when it comes to climate, instead of 2.5-3 hours. All we’re getting today is freezing rain 😐
I’ll have to remember that trick for the new gig. Definitely making an effort with the setup so it’s like “going to work”...I’ve heard some people say they go for walks to bookend the day and also create that “commute”. Not sure yet about two walks!
I’ve heard about the walk thing too! You could do really short one, just enough to go in and out. Though would be hard to convince yourself on days like today…

Love the Flickers! Have seen them on the shoulders of the road, or on my dad’s lawn, pecking away. What did you plant?

Thanks, Mark ☺️ Kinda crazy that it’s almost been a year on Substack!

Thank you, Rebecca! What’s popping up? Once the snow thins out a bit more, we should see crocus and hyacinth (not bucket, mind you 🤪)
