Lots of great points here. Have you watched Lessons in Chemistry on Apple? Chemistry is woven throughout, including cooking but on a great level the role of a woman trying to enter and succeed in her chosen profession. And it's set in the US in the 50s so...

Yes, powdered sugar. (I’m not sure why we call it icing sugar, although it’s really the only thing I use it for.)
