Oh Bryn, this beautifully-written post is SO relatable! Mugs are such a personal thing, aren't they? Although I have plenty I will always gravitate to the same few, and will get disproportionately (not to mention ungratefully!) grumpy if I am given a cup of tea in the wrong one! 🤣

Thank you, Rebecca! I’m glad it’s not just me 😅 What’s your favourite mug and why is it your favourite?

Ooooh, great question!

I have one which Father Christmas gave me decades ago - still going strong. I collect everything duck-related at the time, and it’s a lovely drawing of a duck with the legend ‘Le canard’. I use it every afternoon.

My love for that one, though, has been rather overtaken by my ‘Mrs’ mug - we were given Mr & Mrs mugs as a wedding present ten years ago. Coughs I did have to replace them, though, when the handle fell off Jim’s ‘Mr’ mug a couple of years ago, but we have our early-morning cuppas in those, and that’s lovely. 🥰

That is so sweet, couples coffee 🥹 And I’m tickled by the idea of a duck mug with simply the words of what it is on it 😂

LOL - that duck has no chance of ever having an identity crisis! 🤣

Isn't it amazing that the mug has to have the right heft, the lip has to be the right thickness so as to avoid "drippage", the texture feeling interesting and comforting!? I have a weekday favorite and a weekend favorite mug. I love going to craft fairs and shops featuring local artists and exploring new mugs. Even the colors and glazing has to feel right. I still have 2 mugs that my parents gave me as I left for college 54 years ago . They still feel just right, like love.

I love this, Susan, thank you for sharing! What’s the difference(s) between the weekday and the weekend mugs? I’m curious as to what makes something more appropriate for a Sunday versus a Monday 😃

Nothing really, just a little way to celebrate the more leisurely enjoyment of weekend morning coffee!

Right with you this Bryn, and it was fun to see your mugs. For many years (20?) I cycled through a collection of three mugs (two Snoopy, one Wilco), until I decided about two years ago that I wanted a totally flat bottomed mug that would perform better with my mug warmer, and now I’ve got two mugs I’m really happy with (plus a backup). We’re funny, we humans, aren’t we?

We’re very much creatures of habit, Tom, as much as we may try to buck against notions of routine and regularity. I’ve never used a mug warmer; I usually find I need mine to cool enough to drink. And (perhaps the real reason), my desk is usually too cluttered 😅 (I love that you had a Wilco mug btw. I should listen to more of their stuff.)

By far my favorite band …

Not a coffee drinker so I wouldn’t have thought about the mug being a warrior but I like the image - something out in front of you to help you meet the day. For me my tea and hot chocolate mugs have to be the right fit for my hands. They are like hand warmers to grasp when I need warmth or comfort.

I should have been more inclusive, Eunice - my choice also goes to teas and toddies. I just start with coffee 😅 What’s your favourite mug - who’s your warrior?

I have a large mug that flairs at the top. It is comfortable when I wrap my hands around it. I actually have 3 that shape by the one that gives me strength is the multi color one. I also have on that is more bowl shaped that my son brought back from Kews Garden but I haven’t used it yet. It does feel good in my hands.

I don’t drink hot beverages much! And yet have a plethora of mugs. Currently in heavy rotation are a pair of mugs with cats wearing glasses on them, received from my in-laws for Christmas.

I love this!! My mugs are all the same (the Starbucks location mugs, that I’ve collected from my travels). I like to think of it as travelling the world with every cup of joe!

I love that idea! We do have a NYC Starbucks mug - I think we thought we’d try to do that, and never did. But even if it’s not a Starbucks mug, souvenirs to remind of a trip while you have coffee are a great idea.
