Entropy - the degree of disorder in a system - increases over time. That’s physics, baby. But it doesn’t make change easier. Or, (re)invention of Campfire Notebook.
Looking forward to what comes next! These newsletters are always top notch explorations of science, art, nature and looks like more good writing to come!
Thanks, Mark. Appreciate the kind words and here’s hoping! 😅 It’ll still be science and art and nature, just with more of me and my own stuff infused in there, rather than reports of others’ work.
If I may venture an opinion, it’s that the more personal our writing is, the more it will be distinguished from the “content” that can be created by AIs or by writers who are too hesitant to take a position or reveal themselves. I came for your science and art, but I learn more from your poetry and exploration. As long as the “personal exploration” stuff doesn’t become self-serving or narcissistic (two traits I’ve NEVER see in you), I find it really compelling. [Note that these are a combination of my thoughts about your stuff and about blogs/stacks/whatever-the-hell-these-are in general.]
Thanks, Tom. I appreciate that perspective (I definitely will avoid the self-serving stuff, aside from the odd, “Hey, I just published this thing!”), and while I hadn’t thought of that re: AI, it’s bang on. I want to read messy real life, not sterile bots.
Looking forward to seeing how you adapt and change how it suits you in 2024. We're dynamic beings, it is only natural that we ebb and flow in our writing and creativity.
I find that when writers take these kinds of risks, it almost always pays off in double dividends. I did something similar when I changed focus of one of the sections on Future Thief, and I'm really happy I did. With your kind of passion and willingness to share what interests you, it should be a great experience for you and for us the readers... and if it's not for us, but it is for you, then you can kick us to the curb. 😉
I'm with you, Bryn. It'll be a great year.
🥂

Happy new year, Bryn. Painful but necessary change, I think is a great way to describe 2023.
Happy New Year, Alison! Here’s to a better 2024 🥂

I’m along for the ride, Bryn. Since you quote The Talking Heads, I’ll quote The Who: “The music must change.”
