The picture where you "stan the queen" is priceless. (Where did you get it from?) The issue of gobbledegook springs beyond language, too. It's in the framework and the "design" of what we communicate. Despite the UK's (former?) aversion to to plain English, the UK government does have some world-leading design principles. See https://www.gov.uk/guidance/government-design-principles "Government Design Principles." The page's breadcrumbs tell part of the intention: "HomeGovernmentGovernment efficiency, transparency and accountability" so I guess not all is lost.
In the US, it's apparent to me that the design principles are rarely evident.
That’s a great link, thanks for sharing. Am going to take notes, as so much of redesigning healthcare overlaps with design principles from other areas. And at least in design, they advocate to start with the user needs, which is really what patient-oriented research is about.
The image of Chrissie shredding documents with abandon cracked me up. It’s part of a history of the campaign doc on their website, called Born to Crusade. Great read that really highlights the difference that even one person with bravado can accomplish.
On fire!
Thanks for reading it Mark! (On fire maybe from all this heat 😂☀️)
So much research is written so poorly, I weep every day over it. Excellent work!
Thanks Alison!! I know you share my struggle with some of the language we see 🫠

Totally on point for me -- it's a constant challenge to keep trying to get better. And thanks for the plainlanguage.gov link! Fantastic.
Glad you find it useful! ☺️
