Fun post, Bryn! I certainly feel the nolstagia for a waning summer, and as someone who has never liked baseball, I look forward to what fall brings by the time we’re here- weather, football, and all. However, I love the way your post organically speaks to our human experience of the changing of the seasons. And such beautiful Bluejays!
Thanks, Camille! I love fall - football, the colours, great hiking weather - but have a soft spot for warm summer nights like the ones in the post.
The blue jays are a funny, social bird. Some detest them because they can be a tad extra with the screeching, and bullying smaller birds, but they’re quite comical to watch. Do you have them?
The story balanced against the bird pics ... wonderful. We’ve got three jays in our area--Stellar’s (always), California Scrub (increasingly common), and Gray (which Merlin calls the Canada Jay; you only see it in the mountains). I like them all!
Thanks, Tom ☺️ No blue jays?I haven’t seen the first two you mentioned here, but (unsurprisingly) have seen the Canada Jay, last fall on the way in and out to Ben’s hunting stand. Very social and playful! Funny it’s only in the mountains there - I’m essentially at sea level, but spy them on occasion.
I was an Expo fan, but when they left town, I, as a neophyte Torontonian, cheered for the Jays. I wasn't at any of the World Series games, but I listened to Tom and Jerry on the radio. When Joe hit the home run, I didn't realize at the moment that it was game over!

Oh, yes! We get bluebirds, not the jays, nesting in spring here- which I’m very excited for this year!- but we also get Bluejays 😊

No blue jays, sadly. But I think they're all kind of playful (and raucous), aren't they?
'Writing letters of complaint to Dairy Queen for changing the formula of their cookie dough in Blizzards.'😂😅
Such a sweeet read, Bryn!
Ha ha, thank you!! 🥰

After that game, it was a bit “out of left field”! (I’ll be here all week!)
